Why can't patients find a physician who does shock wave therapy?
There are very few shock wave therapy medical service providers across the country. Most physicians have no idea where to attain a shock wave device, therefore, they do not offer ESWT as a treatment option for their patients. Additionally, most health insurance companies consider shock wave therapy an elective treatment option. As a result, ESWT falls into a cash-pay category akin to laser eye surgery, infertility procedures, orthodontics, hair replacement and cosmetic surgery. Many physicians have built their practice around insurance driven procedures and hesitate to present a cash-pay treatment to their patients.
What options do patients have who are suffering with chronic pain and want to receive shock wave therapy?
